This workshop focuses on improving participants’ abilities in composing and editing academic work in English as well as imparting these abilities and giving feedback to students’ texts. We will touch on the writing process as well as specific questions in language and style when writing in English. The workshop is specifically designed to address the needs of second-language writers in the field of teaching and science.

Topics include:

• Writing strategies and best practices
• Key aspects of well-written texts: organization, style, and flow
• Understanding how punctuation, sentences, and paragraphs work
• Editing and finalizing a written project
• Giving feedback

Participants are asked to submit an excerpt of their current work (work in progress) in English at least 14 days in advance. The excerpt should be no more than 1,000 words in length.

After this workshop, second-language writers will feel more confident and motivated to navigate academic writing in English.

The workshop will include presentations by the instructor, group discussions, individual work by the participants, and the opportunity for feedback with each participant (individual meeting with the instructor, approx. 15 min.)

The scope of the workshop is 16 working units (WU, 1 WU = 45 min).

This further education offer is basically directed at lecturers of the TU Dresden. Lecturers of HDS member universities have the possibility to participate if there are still free workshop places.
