Inhalt

This workshop focuses on improving participants’ abilities in composing and editing academic work in English as well as imparting these abilities and giving feedback to students’ texts. We will touch on the writing process as well as specific questions in language and style when writing in English. The workshop is specifically designed to address the needs of second-language writers in the field of teaching and science.

Topics include:

  • Writing strategies and best practices
  • Key aspects of well-written texts: organization, style, and flow
  • Understanding how punctuation, sentences, and paragraphs work
  • Editing and finalizing a written project
  • Giving feedback
Requirements:
    Participants are asked to submit an excerpt of their current work in English at least 14 days in advance. The excerpt should be no more than 2,000 words in length.
Objectives:
    After this workshop, second-language writers will feel more confident and motivated to navigate academic writing in English.
Methods:
    In the online format, this workshop will now be spread out over 4 days and will include presentations by the instructor, group discussions, individual work by the participants, and the opportunity for feedback with each participant.
Schedule:
  • Day 1: Introduction, Writing strategies, Writing process, Discussion
  • Day 2: Discussion of worksheets, Organization, style, and flow of academic texts, Online tools
  • Day 3: Discussion of reading material, Punctuation, sentences, and paragraphs
  • Day 4: Editing, Feedback, Concluding remarks/questions
  • Participants will receive short written assignments or reading material for the following session.
    In addition, the instructor will schedule an individual meeting (approx. 15 min.) with each participant in the afternoon of the second or third day.

The scope of the workshop is 16 working units (WU, 1 WU = 45 min).

Berufliche Einsatzmöglichkeiten Dieser Workshop kann für das Modul II im Zertifikatsprogramm des Hochschuldidaktischen Zentrums Sachsen HDS anerkannt werden. Dabei verteilen sich die Arbeitseinheiten (AE) auf folgende Handlungsfelder: Schlüsselqualifikationen (8 AE), Beraten, Begleiten und Interaktion (4 AE) sowie Vielfalt, Chancengleichheit und Internationales (4 AE)
