Thema Program for TU Dresden staff: How to improve your conversational skills: Respectful Communication

Inhalt First, we deal with the basics of respectful communication. We will deal with the difference between observation, interpretation and evaluation, with reality construction and change of perspective as well as with the importance of one‘s own inner attitude for conducting a conversation. If necessary, intercultural differences can also be addressed. We develop techniques for partner-centered communication and the formulation of constructive feedback. You will learn how to formulate praise and appreciation as well as criticism respectfully and to the point. We also talk about how we should receive feedback. We train these basics in job-related situations so that you can communicate more convincingly and clearly when dealing with colleagues and employees.


Learning Objectives:
  • You will consciously reflect on your communication behavior and know ways to consciously react in challenging (emotional) situations.
  • You know and master techniques for partner-centered conversation.
  • You know the criteria for constructive (non-violent) feedback and can formulate concrete praise and constructive criticism.

This workshop will focus on:
  • Basics of respectful communication and partner-centered conversation
  • Reflection on the own communication behavior and its backgrounds
  • Development and application of techniques for successful, appreciative conversation
  • Giving and receiving feedback: concretely, constructively, respectful

Methods: trainer input, group work and interactive methods

The scope of the workshop is 16 work units (1 work unit = 45 min) and can be credited towards the "Successful Leadership at TU Dresden" certificate.
